Internal suspension is widely used in schools, but its impact depends on how well it is designed and implemented. Used poorly, it can increase disengagement; used well, it can support reflection, regulation and successful reintegration.
This course supports primary schools to use internal suspension purposefully, ethically and in line with Government guidance, with a focus on behaviour change, inclusion and improved outcomes.
Course aims:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand when and how internal suspension should be used within an effective behaviour system
Align internal suspension practice with Government expectations, safeguarding and inclusion
Apply evidence-based approaches that reduce repeat behaviour
Design internal suspension provision that supports reflection, regulation and learning
Improve reintegration and reduce repeated use of internal suspensions.
