Using Non-verbal Communication to Build Relationships with Children with Additional Needs in Early Years Settings

£65.00+VAT

Course delivered by Video Conferencing

Learn how to use rapport-based communication to make connections and find rapport with children who are difficult to reach in early years care.
Many services are finding that, since lockdown, there are more children entering early years settings that are at an earlier stage of communication development or have signs of additional needs but don’t yet have a diagnosis.
On completing the course you will have a deeper understanding of the children’s needs and how to build relationships through child-led play.  The course will include:

- Underpinning theory and principles of rapport-based communication
- Analysis of videos of best practices
- Finding solutions to personal challenges in breakout room discussions
Feedback

"Some great tips for communicating and interacting with children who are non-verbal, I feel like I can really put the "three C’s” idea into practise to create the rapport that's needed, to then put everything else into place for the child’s learning and development"
"I feel I've gained a way to interact and develop relationships, not just with my non-verbal child, but all the other children in my Setting"
"A better understanding of how to communicate with non verbal children, how to join in with and add to their play whilst allowing this to still be child led. Ways in which to act on what may seem challenging behaviour from a child who is only expressing themselves or giving out offers for a familiar adult to join in".
