Using 'P' Scales - Observing and Assessing the Progress of Pupils with Special Needs

The course will illustrate and discuss the use of 'P' scales - from P1 - P8 for assessing the progress of those pupils 5-16 who are working towards the National Curriculum. The course is suitable for both Teachers and Learning Support Assistants.

Find out about:

  • Key messages from QCA guidance - 'Using the 'P' Scales' - which was produced in 2005 and updates advice relating to assessing the progress of pupils working in the range of P4 to P8
  • Perspectives of that guidance, and the Ofsted PLD training materials that relate to the progress of pupils at the very earliest levels of learning - P1 to 3

Outcomes of the course:

  • An understanding of the nature of progress for very special pupils
  • A knowledge of the approaches to collecting evidence
  • An ability to make assessments from evidence
  • An understanding of the approaches to moderation
