Who is this course suitable for?
This course is for people who manage a child, a young person or an adult who is exhibiting challenging behaviour that restricts them from accessing a range of opportunities. The indivudal may have emotional or behavioural difficulties, have a learning disability, be on the autism spectrum or not have a diagnosis at all. They may be at home, at school, in an adult service, in the workplace or living in residential care.

Summary of the course
The course considers the reasons why people behave in certain ways and looks at the best and most proactive ways of achieving behaviour change for an individual. Groups of needs are examined and gaining new skills are considered through the use of case studies. Behaviour support planning including proactive, active and reactive and reactive strategies is fully explained. Practical advice and examples are used throughout the course
• Consider our attitudes are values towards challenging behaviour
• Analyse behaviour and place it within the four groups of need
• Behaviour escalation and de-escalation strategies
• building a proactive support plan for an individual
• Explanation of a model of functional analysis to enable people to work out why an individual is behaving in a certain way
• Examine different levels of support
