Identifying and Managing Sensory Based Behaviours

Course summary:

 This course provides professionals and families with an understanding of sensory processing and potentially associated behaviours.  Sensory avoidance and sensory seeking behaviours will be explained along with strategies for environmental change and sensory diets.


Course Aims:

 For attendees to develop the knowledge and confidence to unpick and analyse difficult behaviours and implement change that will help to meet the needs of an individual with unique sensory processing issues.


Who should attend:

 This course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, support workers or family members who want to make a difference to the lives of anyone who is suspected of having behaviours associated with sensory processing issues.


Course Content:

 An overview of Sensory Processing Disorder, including:

            Sensory Modulation Difficulties

            Sensory Discrimination Difficulties

            Sensory-based Motor Difficulties


  • How to audit and analyse an individual`s sensory needs
  • Using the Iceberg Model to identify and prioritise behaviours that are causing concern
  • Environmental changes
  • Sensory diets
  • Teaching individuals to understand their own needs and incorporate calming strategies into their daily lives
