Suitable for teachers and support staff working with PMLD
/ ASD children with profound communication difficulties. Care Staff,
parents and carers living and working with children and adults with severe
communication difficulties.
OUTLINE:
The course will draw upon Intensive Interaction, Sherbourne movement
techniques, play and drama techniques to explore whole person techniques of
communicating and connecting with children and adults with profound
communication needs.
The course will cover:
- Exploring the communication needs of people with profound needs
- Identifying the difference between functional and emotional communication
- How to use and develop communication techniques based on Intensive
Interaction and Sherbourne movement
- Using drama and play techniques to develop communication and social
skills.
Planning Recording and observing techniques
n.b. please note this course will not cover whole body
signing
OUTCOMES:
- Delegates will gain an understanding of the communication needs and
experiences of people with profound needs
- Gain skills for developing Intensive Interaction practice, Sherbourne
movement and play and drama techniques for people with profound needs
- Plan sessions for specific individuals
- Develop observation and recording skills
Cost of course: includes lunch,
refreshments and supporting notes
£185 (+ Vat) for the 1st place, £165 (+ Vat) for 2nd and subsequent places
on the same course.
