9.30am Welcome and introduction - Sally Slater - Keynote Speech
Definitions of PMLD; looking beyond assessment; focusing on development, not the difficulty; how to plan, engage and support.

11.00am Workshop Session One - delegates to choose one from three
Workshop (a) “Eating and Drinking with Safety and Dignity” Clare Grace
This workshop will look at an outline of the normal process, what can go wrong, the danger signs and best practice and would be invaluable for anyone involved in both food preparation or feeding
Workshop (b) “Progress within “P” Levels 1 –3” Sally Slater
This workshop is for people working in schools and will look at presenting subjects in a creative way and at expectations and different ways of measuring progress
Workshop (c) “Practical Activities in the Multi-Sensory Environment” Janet Price
This workshop is “hands on” and will give participants ideas when using effects projectors, fibre optics and ultra violet light.

Workshop (d) “Simple Sensory Play for all ages” Sally Slater
This workshop will look at fun and interesting ways of engaging both adults and children who have PMLD
Workshop (e) “Person Centred Planning” Clare Grace
This workshop will explore the principles of Person Centred Planning by looking to the future and developing support plans that are practical and possible to achieve. It will look at planning for a person’s “best day”

Workshop (g) “Communication – changing attitudes” Clare Grace
This workshop is suitable for those working with either adults or children. It will look at the development of communication from pre-intentional to iconic (representational) communication systems. The facilitator will demonstrate a range of alternative and augmentative communication aids from paper based to electronic
Workshop (h) “Seeing Challenging Behaviours as Skills” Sally Slater
This workshop is suitable for those working with either adults or children and will focus on what challenging behaviour is and the need that the behaviour is meeting for the individual. We will look at developing a skill that a person already possesses and channelling that skill into an activity that is more engaging and appropriate
