Aims of the Day

  • To gain an overview of communication development
  • To gain insight into functions of communication
  • To understand what is alternative and augmentative communication
  • To develop an awareness of a rang of AAC communication aids
  • To learn basic techniques on the Writing with Symbols 2000 software to develop some simple AAC communication aids

 Objectives

  • To participate with group discussion comparing their own communication skills and functions to that of a service user's communication skills and functions
  • To complete an environmental audit of the communication functions and access to successful communication int the service user's environment.
  • To examine and try out a range of different alternative and augmentative communication aids
  • To plan and develop basic AAC aids using Widgit Writing with Symbols 2000 software.
