New course: Eating and Drinking with Safety and Dignity
Currently available "In-House" only
Trainers: Clare Jones and Jane Smith
This course is designed to give a basic awareness of people who have difficulties eating and drinking. It is a very practical course which includes theory, lots of interactive taskes, food tasting, case studies and demonstrations.
The course begins with a basic awareness of the normal swallow to lay out the foundation for the day. Signs and symptoms people may show if they have a swallowing difficulty. We will watch a short video to identify potential problems with environments, equipment, food preparation and communication.
Outcomes of the day:
- To understand the swallowing process and identify what can 'go wrong'
- Recognise the risks to take into consideration when supporting people who have eating and drinking difficulties
- Understand how difficulties eating and drinking can affect a persons health
- Identify ways to support people with eating and drinking difficulties in a safer way
